Our Verdict

It won’t last as long as an expensive set, but our AmazonBasics cookware review confirms this set will get the job done for most home cooks.

Finding a great cookware set feels impossible when you’re on a tight budget. But did you know that Amazon has their own 15-piece cookware set that costs less than $60? Our AmazonBasics cookware review takes a detailed look at Amazon’s budget cookware set.

Take a look at what we found below.

What is AmazonBasics?

AmazonBasics is Amazon’s private label brand that the behemoth launched in 2009.

It includes everything from pillows to kitchen gadgets to cookware sets. AmazonBasics products are usually cheaper than the alternatives, which makes them a great choice for consumers on a tight budget.

AmazonBasics Cookware Review Summary

AmazonBasics Non-Stick 15-Piece Cookware Set, Pots, Pans and Utensils

Summary: It’s not going to win any awards for durability, but the AmazonBasics Cookware Set is a perfectly acceptable cookware set priced within reach of even the most frugal families. You simply can’t beat the value for the price.

However, if you’re able to spend up to $100 you can get a lot more bang for your buck with a higher quality ceramic non-stick set.

What’s Included in the Cookware Set?

The AmazonBasics Non-Stick Cookware Set is a 15-piece set that includes everything you need to outfit your kitchen. It comes with:

  • 1.5-qt Saucepan with lid
  • 2-qt Saucepan with lid
  • 8-in Fry pan
  • 10-in Fry pan
  • 3-qt Casserole pan with lid
  • 5-qt Casserole pan with lid
  • 5-piece utensil set with pasta server, soup ladle, slotted turner, serving spoon, and slotted serving spoon

AmazonBasics Cookware Set Design

If you like the color black you’ll love the AmazonBasics Non-Stick Cookware set. The set has a simple, attractive design but it only comes in a matte black finish.

Chunky black handles and aluminum rims provide some much-needed visual interest to the set.

We wish there were more color options, but at such a low price point we weren’t expecting a lot of variety.

Cookware Construction

The bodies of the AmazonBasics cookware are constructed from aluminum finished with a BPA-free non-stick coating.

Aluminum is widely recognized as an excellent heat conductor and most non-stick cookware sets use aluminum for the core of the cookware. Additionally, it’s also very lightweight, making the AmazonBasics pots and pans easy to maneuver.

The downside of the simple aluminum construction is that the set isn’t as durable as sets constructed of hard-anodized aluminum.

Cookware Lids and Handles

Amazon’s AmazonBasics Cookware Set has plastic handles that are designed to stay cool while cooking. As a result, there is no risk of accidental burns from touching exposed metal.

The vented glass lids allow you to monitor your food while you cook. However, it should be noted that the lids are not tempered glass, meaning they are not as durable as the lids in more expensive sets.

Cookware Non-Stick Coating

Amazon’s AmazonBasics Cookware Set has a BPA-free non-stick coating, but it’s unclear what exactly the non-stick coating is made from. We assume it’s a form of Teflon, but we really don’t like the lack of transparency.

We reached out to Amazon while writing our review to get some clarification on the non-stick coating.

This is a budget cookware set, and if you are gentle with the non-stick coating it’s perfectly fine. However, if you’re willing to spend more money you can get a ceramic cookware set with a PFOA, PFOS, lead, and cadmium free non-stick coating.

Cookware Care and Maintenance

The AmazonBasics Cookware Set is not dishwasher safe.

This means you’ll need to wash the cookware by hand after you’ve finished cooking. We don’t consider this a dealbreaker because we never wash non-stick cookware in the dishwasher.

You should wash the AmazonBasics Cookware Set in lukewarm water using a gentle detergent and non-abrasive sponge.

Cookware Set Limitations

Our AmazoneBasics cookware review uncovered that the set has quite a few limitations.

First, the cookware set is not oven safe. If you try to use the AmazonBasics Cookware Set in the oven you’re going to melt the handles.

Second, it’s not dishwasher safe. Even though we never recommend putting non-stick cookware in the dishwasher we recognize that this feature is important to many people.

Finally, you can’t use metal utensils on this cookware set because they will damage the non-stick coating. But the set itself comes with plastic utensils.

Cookware Set Warranty

As part of our AmazonBasics cookware review we examined the product warranty. Amazon’s AmazonBasics Cookware Set comes with a 1-year warranty that begins on the date of purchase.

The warranty covers any defects in the cookware caused by materials or workmanship.

If you make a warranty claim Amazon will repair, replace, or refund you the cost of the product.

Complaints About AmazonBasics Cookware Set

During our AmazonBasics cookware review we looked for a pattern of customer complaints.

A common complaint about the AmazonBasics Cookware Set is that it either arrived dented or developed a dent after being dropped. We weren’t really surprised by this complaint, because this is an entry-level cookware set that’s simply not as durable as hard-anodized aluminum alternatives.

There were several complaints about the cookware giving off a burnt-plastic smell during use, but that could be from consumers who are overheating the pans. The manufacturer only recommends using the AmazonBasics Cookware Set at low or medium heat.

Our Final Thoughts

Our AmazonBasics cookware review didn’t uncover anything that surprised us. The AmazonBasics Cookware Set is an entry-level cookware set. It’s not a workhorse that’s intended to last a lifetime.

We recommend the AmazonBasics Cookware Set if you are on a tight budget and don’t mind dealing with some of the limitations of the set.
